AQUA LIBRA

ElecSoul — Aqua Libra

Soul, global grooves, disco and deep house.

The title felt right for a mix that balances different sounds and moods while keeping the groove flowing.

Tracklist & further listening

01. Zap Mama — 'Allo 'Allo

Listen and explore the track

Belgian-Congolese artist Marie Daulne's Zap Mama project has spent decades exploring the connections between African vocal traditions, jazz, soul and contemporary production. Originally released on A Ma Zone in 1999, "'Allo 'Allo" showcases the playful, rhythmically intricate approach that makes her music so distinctive.

02. Liv East — Freak (Extended Mix)

Listen and explore Liv East

Liv East brings a contemporary blend of vocal-led house and electronic soul to the selection. The extended mix gives the groove room to breathe, making it a natural fit for a set that moves between soulful vocals and club-focused rhythms.

03. Kaytranada & Rochelle Jordan — TTW (Kaytranada Remix)

Listen and explore the remix

Kaytranada has developed a signature sound that connects hip-hop, R&B, funk and house through syncopated rhythms, elastic basslines and beautifully off-centre grooves. Rochelle Jordan's contemporary R&B vocals sit comfortably within that world, bringing a different energy to the dancefloor.

 04. Dwson & Liv East — Riptide (Extended Mix)

Listen and explore the track

South African producer Dwson is associated with the country's deep and soulful house movement. Paired with Liv East, this track connects atmospheric electronic production with a more intimate vocal presence.

05. Loletta Holloway — Love Sensation (Party Pupils Remix)

Listen and explore the remix

A reminder of the enduring power of a great disco vocal. Holloway's original Love Sensation, released in 1980, became a landmark dance record, with its soaring vocal and infectious groove influencing generations of house and disco producers. Party Pupils bring their own contemporary dancefloor interpretation.

06. KenLou — The Bounce

Listen and explore KenLou

KenLou brings together two important figures in house music: Kenny Dope and Louie Vega. Both are central to the story of New York house, soul and sample-based dance production, with a shared musical approach that puts rhythm, percussion and groove at the centre.

 07. Jon Secada — Do You Really Want Me

Listen and explore the track

A vocal-led change of direction within the mix. Jon Secada's career spans pop, R&B and Latin music, and his smooth vocal style offers another shade of soulfulness in this selection.

08. Danny Marquez & Ferry B. — Afrocatalans

Listen and explore the track

The title points towards the meeting of Afro-influenced rhythms and European club culture. This is a useful moment in the journey where percussion and movement take centre stage.

09. Felipe Gordon — I Know, You Know (Original Mix)

Listen and explore Felipe Gordon

Colombian producer Felipe Gordon has become known for a musical approach to house that draws on jazz harmony, broken beat, soul and classic deep house. His productions often combine loose, swinging rhythms with rich chords and a warm analogue feel.

10. Lovetempo — The Right Way (Fouk Remix)

Listen on Bandcamp

lovetempo is the project of Mattie Safer, known for his work with The Rapture and Poolside. Dutch production duo Fouk bring their playful blend of disco, funk and house to the remix, adding another layer of groove to the original.

11. Kings of Tomorrow feat. April — Fall For You (Sandy Rivera's Classic Mix)

Listen via Defected Records

Kings of Tomorrow is one of Sandy Rivera's best-known projects. Following the enduring success of Finally, Rivera continued to develop a deeply soulful style of house built around expressive vocals, warm basslines and patient arrangements. Released in 2013, Fall For You features April Morgan and is a fine example of that sound.

Kings of Tomorrow — Live at the Jazz Cafe

I was fortunate to catch Kings of Tomorrow live at the Jazz Cafe on 4 September, and what an incredible evening it was! The energy in the room was something special. Sandy Rivera himself seemed genuinely taken aback by the warmth and enthusiasm of the welcome the band received as they took to the stage.

A beautiful reminder of the connection between music, artists and the people who come together to experience it. One of those nights that stays with you.

A little moment from the night below.

12. Kevin Yost — Got To Move Ya (Followup Mix)

Listen and explore Kevin Yost

Kevin Yost has built a substantial catalogue of deep house, characterised by detailed percussion, rolling rhythms and understated musicality. His work is a reminder that a groove doesn't need to shout to hold your attention.

13. Conway Kasey — Gravitate (Main Version)

Listen and explore the track

A selection that brings another texture into the mix. This is one of the tracks where the musical journey is best left to unfold, with the title itself suggesting the pull of a groove that draws you in.

14. DJ Fudge — Panta Rhei

Listen and explore DJ Fudge

DJ Fudge is associated with soulful and Afro-influenced house, connecting deep club rhythms with a strong sense of musicality. Panta Rhei — a phrase commonly translated as “everything flows” — feels particularly fitting within this episode's theme of movement and transition.

15. Fred Everything & Teuteu — Arrêt Infini, Pt. 1

Explore the release at Banquet Records

Canadian producer Fred Everything has spent decades developing a distinctive approach to deep house, balancing detailed electronic production with warmth and atmosphere. His collaboration with Montreal musician Teuteu brings together crisp dancefloor rhythms, keyboard work, soaring strings and a cinematic quality. Part 1 opens the Arrêt Infinirelease with an expansive feel.

16. Vera — Take Me

Listen and explore the track

Closing the tracklist with another musical invitation. A simple title, but one that fits the spirit of the episode: letting the rhythm take you wherever it needs to go.

Between the records: what I'm reading

Music and books often feed into one another. These are three titles currently keeping me company.

Atomic Habits — James Clear

A practical exploration of how small, consistent changes can shape our habits and long-term progress. A useful reminder that the things we do repeatedly can have a lasting impact.

Ametora — W. David Marx

A fascinating history of how Japan adopted, reinterpreted and ultimately helped preserve American traditional menswear. It's a story about cultural exchange, craftsmanship and the way ideas travel between places and generations.

Status and Culture — W. David Marx

An exploration of how social status shapes taste, identity, fashion, music and the wider cultural landscape. Particularly interesting for anyone curious about how scenes develop, how styles become influential and why our tastes change over time.
