Learn to DJ with Robbie Duncan

I bring extensive industry knowledge and a proven track record. Formerly Head of Studio Equipment at Pirate Studios, I managed the studio gear and recruited DJ, drumming, and production tutors across the network.
Alongside teaching, I’ve performed at clubs, festivals, and major corporate and private events internationally, giving me a broad perspective on what it takes to succeed as a DJ.
Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to refine your technique, I’ll guide you step by step with hands-on experience using professional equipment.
No prior experience is required just your passion for music and enthusiasm to learn.

DJ Students Feedback

“When I first came to be tutored by Robbie I was nervous, and lacking confidence, but Robbie put me straight away at ease with his gentle and curious style of teaching. From the beginning Robbie strongly encouraged me to develop my own style and emphasised there was no one way to approach DJing. He presented me with options, tools and tips to understand a broad range of styles and techniques without overwhelming me with information. Robbie is generous with helpful feedback and encouragement on mixes that I send over and so brilliant at following up with links, videos and clear information on things we learned in sessions. After just 6 lessons with Robbie I was playing my first gigs out in the world. Now almost two years later I have played in front of crowds of 200-300 people in Bristol, Stroud and Cheltenham, in clubs and at festivals, as well as going on to learn music production, release an album, and run several events and DJ collectives. The impact on my self-confidence and belief has been massive. Most importantly Robbie has encouraged me to trust my own creative expression and instincts. Robbie remains a highly valued mentor, friend and collaborator to this day and I continue to learn from his extensive technical expertise, industry experience and musical knowledge. He is a kind, sensitive and skillful tutor and comes highly recommended by me.”

“Since coming to the dj sessions, I was hooked, the atmosphere and vibes are honestly amazing. You get to meet so many new people who encourage and support you the whole way as well as giving you the freedom you need to make and create your own mixes with your own music! Although the first time showcase after the many sessions was nerveracking, the atmosphere and experience it gives you is so exiting! Joicey is a great place to start to help anyone who is intresting in DJing because of the people, teaching and fab energy.””

“To me being a DJ is not just about mixing tracks, but, creating something that actually connects with people. It starts off with playing around different beats but overtime from learning different techniques and building confidence it gives you your own style of mixing. Since starting my DJ journey, i have become more confident and been able to connect with others who share the same passion as me.”

“The djing course for young women has helped me to bring my dream of learning to dj into reality!! it’s been such an awesome creative outlet and it’s been so inspiring to be part such a lush community- i feel very grateful to have had some incredible experiences and i’m excited to see what’s next to come!!”

“Learning to DJ has helped me develop and explore the music that I love and discover so many songs I wouldn’t have thought possible. As well as learning all the skills I have with the decks; they have become like second nature, I don’t think I will ever forget them! It’s also made me realise that DJing is not only about keeping a crowd happy and dancing but also about being able to share the tunes and genres I enjoy with an audience, bringing people together, and creating an amazing atmosphere!”
